Eek! Ice! Snow!

by Robin Garr » Mon Dec 15, 2008 11:43 am

While we were out in St. Matthews last night trying to help Mary ignore her toothache, we went by Kroger at Woodlawn Park to get some litter for the cats. It looks like the hordes must have beat us to it in search of gritty stuff to put between tires and ice. (Thankfully, some kind soul had left two bags hidden at the end of a row.)

I'm real glad we didn't need milk or TP ...

Time to stock up on bread, eggs and milk!

This is possibly the worst thing for me, since I have about three more truckloads of stuff to move out of my old apartment, and they have to be gone this week.

Ah well, I have a bag of stuff to use if things ice over, and nothing I have to move will be messed up if it gets rained or snowed on.

With this being Kentucky and all, one of two things will happen...we'll either get NO snow, or 10 feet of it. Ahhh...the joys of winter in KY.

annemarie m wrote:boy is the weather sure weird here in ky. one day it's a nice 60 degrees sunny and the next they are predicting severe weather warning. no wonder everybody is always sick with something. i never know how to dress for the day. i have invested in an accu weather digital forecaster. i can see from this gizmo the next 3 days of weather forecasting. comes in handy. :)

Annemarie, you can also click this link ...
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 9&map.y=85
which will take you to the National Weather Service page for Louisville and is loaded with all sorts of info including forecast information for the coming week. Enjoy!

(This link is actually tweaked to be centered right on my neighborhood. It doesn't make an appreciable difference, but if you find you use it a lot and like it, you can tweak the "point forecast" to be close to where you live.)

Being a weather forecaster must be the only job I know of where you can be wrong half the time, and not get fired  . We didn't get the Apocalyptic Winter Storm of Doom last night, so now they're predicting that it will hit this afternoon. Wish I could use that logic in my job!

I never understood why people think putting clay (it melts and turns slick when wet) down is a good idea. Sand offers much better traction than litter.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Moving here from Minne-snow-tah like we did...You folks are really funny with all this "winter" stuff...gives us another reason to smile. Up there they KNOW the snow is coming and the governments budget for snow removal, here not so much because you don't know IF the snow is coming. Most folks up there own a snowblower, drive with an "emergency kit" in their car and just generally do a lot of things that people down here would find unnecessary. It's all relative I suppose.

BTW, taked to my best friend in MSP this a.m. He woke up to minus 17 degrees and 4 inches of -new- snow on the ground (which along with everything else they had probably won't go away until March). Did I mention that we REALLY I love Kentucky.
