Looking for Pikesville Supreme

by carla griffin » Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:28 pm

Anyone know where I can find Pikesville Supreme Rye? I've tried a couple of the mega stores and I've been told it's not even handled by their suppliers. It's distilled and bottled by Heaven Hill so I found that curious. It's not too expensive at all, less than $16 a bottle (cheap!) It's a Christmas gift for my brother who has tried all the other ryes around (yes , even Van Winkle's) and this is the only one he's ever liked. I sure would like to find it soon if anyone knows of it.

Well, thanks for that info but I was hoping to find it locally to take out to him. Costa Mesa is a bit of a drive from Carmel!

Deb, Thanks for sending this along. It was great to see you at the Slow Food event.

Carla, Deb Hall passed your thread along to me. Indeed, there is scant amounts of Pikesville available in the state. I looked in our retail system and found that only Top Hat in St. Matthews has purchased any in the last year. If you want to check with them, you can call 502-896-4772. Ask for Sam. He's a big rye fan. It used to be my local store. He was the only one in town that could manage to get more than a sample bottle.

Having said that, understand that in 2008, it appears Top Hat is the ONLY store in Louisville that bought ANY Pikesville. It's just not that widely sold outside of Maryland.

My suggestion, if Sam doesn't have any Pikesville, is to pick up a bottle of Rittenhouse 100 (there is also an 80 proof, if you prefer). It is the darling of the mixology crowd worldwide, right now. You can find Rittenhouse at Top Hat, Old Town in the Highlands, Party Mart off Brownsboro or Party Outlet in Middletown.

Retail on both of these products should be in line with your expectations.

If I can help any further, you can email me at jhafer@heaven-hill.com.
