Do you know anyone who can "dry mount" art posters ?

by Steve P » Sat Dec 06, 2008 3:44 pm

All,

We have several movie/music/art posters which we would like to have "dry mounted" on hardboard. We're not inclined to pay the 80+ dollars per poster that Allposters.com charges for this service. Does anyone know of a local source (Artist, art supply store, etc) who can dry mount these posters for a reasonable sum ? I've tried to do it at home using inexpensive spray/roll on adhesives with mixed results. Mounting small items (11x17) is doable but anything in the 24x36 inch range becomes a lesson in frustration. Apparently the best method is one using higher grade adhesives and some type of vacuum and/or heat generating equipment.

I have someone who has done workfor my collection of "Offset Prints'" I am assuming these are offset, or posters... because if these are fine art lithograph or serigraph than they need to be mounted for "conservation mount" which is a different process.

Michael's does a lot of mountings, I think that they might be able to help. If not, let me know and I can contact my framer Sharon.

Heather,

These are just your run of the mill movie posters...which I assume are just offset printing. I knew Michael's did framing but wasn't aware they could do dry poster mounting, I'll give them a call in the next day or two just to make sure. Thanks.

Hi Steve,

The new Jo-Ann opened a few weekends ago in St Matthews, and while I was there checking out the fabric offerings, I notices they had a framing section. You might give them a call to see about their rates!

I highly recommend Framers Supply, 2621 So. 4th st., south of UofL, near Central Ave. I had numerous "3 sheet" Broadway show posters dry-mounted and framed there. Framers had the best price, very nice people and the quality was great. Not the most convenient, but close to Santa Fe Cafe so I never mind going there.

Amy!!! Your a genius.... how could I forget Framers! I used framer's back in the day (twenty years ago), and they are still around.

I used to get frames from them, (my father in law is a retired portait artist, and we tried to open a gallery here for him), we used Framers.
They had the best quality of everything, always on the cutting edge.

Amy,

Thank you so much. I just got off the phone with Framers Supply and it sounds like they can do what I'm looking to have done at a very reasonable price. Look for a little something extra in your Christmas stocking this year.
