The Kentucky Center

by Carol C » Tue Dec 02, 2008 6:27 pm

In a couple of weeks I am taking our 4y/o granddaughter to the Kentucky Center to see the Nutcracker matinee for the second time. Last year we ate at Jarfi's and it worked out perfectly and I was wondering if anyone knew what, if anything, is in the Center now. If not, any suggestions within walking distance (so we only have to park once!). She is a pretty sophisticated eater for a 4 y/o. We have done the "Luncheon with Claire" with her cousin but the food was dreadful and it makes for MUCH too long a day for the child and CC!!! Thanks for any suggestions.

Carol, there's not currently a restaurant in the Center (I called to ask just the other day! I used to work at Jarfi's and was curious). Walking distance would be Los Aztecas on the corner of 6th and Main, for one. Matinee, eh? What day of the week is it?

Carol, if you have the latest issue of "Food and Dining", there is a map in there with numbered dots all over the Louisville Metro Area. That might be helpful!

Carol,

Once you pick a place, be sure to call ahead to make sure they are open for lunch on Saturday. A number of places that cater to the Work Day lunch crowd don't do lunch on the weekend- they don't get enough traffic.

Bristol would be a good choice with a 4 year old. Also, Luigi's on Main would be good if you are willing to go for something more casual ( there is no table service). Personally, I don't recommend anything lunch-wise at the Galt House. Bistro 301 would also be a good choice ( corner of Market and 3rd).

I would check Proof on Main. Lunch and free art, you can't go wrong.

I, too, am taking granddaughter to the ballet that afternoon. I plan to take them to an early lunch at Cafe Lou Lou (St. Matthews) before the performance. Parking is free at Cafe Lou Lou. Then we will hop in the car and drive to the Kentucky Center.
