True, but Best Buy and Wal-Mart have been cleaning their clock for the past couple of years. They've been crashing and burning slowly, and this wasn't too hard to see coming.

All types of businesses are failing these days, but retail and restaurants tend to be the most visible. We're not "mall people" but we popped into the malls in St. Matthews (do they really need two?) when we were in town. Though this was a weeknight, there were pretty much no shoppers at all, save the Halloween shop. Huge overhead plus no sales equals red ink.

A lot of retail is either trying to reinvent themselves or hold on until the first of the year with hopes for a good holiday season.

If I was in retailing I'd be looking for a zero growth holiday season (or in some cases perhaps even a negative number).

We popped in over the weekend, because my hubby was looking to see if any of the games had been marked down. They hadn't. Actually, I lie. The video games were marked down a whole 5%! Wow!Circuit City was already really good with the old "bait and switch", so I'm not surprised that they're actually marking prices up. It was a joke. I didn't see anyone buy anything! On the other hand, we went to Oxmoor this weekend, and it was PACKED. Jefferson Mall's lot looked quite full, as well. Costco was also slammed. It'll be Christmas as usual for us.

Yeah, if you're looking for a deal, I'll save you the trouble. Don't waste your gas driving over there. My hubby remarked that even the beef jerky and candy were marked up!

I just got a mailer saying that hhgregg is accepting Circuit City gift cards for a limited time. There are a few catches however. They will give you dollar for dollar on a gift card but ONLY for up to 20% of the total purchase. So if you're buying a $200 item and you have a $50 gift card they would only give you $40 credit towards your purchase. Basically, it's a 20% off sale at hh gregg if you have a Circuit City gift card

I stopped in the Circuit City in Clarksville last night, and not many bargains to be found. They do have the video games 15% off and I did not see that they were marked up, but looking at the other electronics, the pricing did not seem to be that low at all. I've noticed the same thing at the KMart in Clarksville that is closing as well The deals just don't seem that good, yet they are packed with people. They do have their video games 25% off now, which is a good deal
