Need tech help

by Gayle DeM » Mon Nov 03, 2008 11:08 am

My Dell computer has Microsoft XP (2002) udated with Microsoft Office 2007. As of this morning I cannot access Microsoft Office Outlook. I get a message that there is a problem with C:\DocumentsandSettings\Gayle\LocalSettings'ApplicationData\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook\pst.
I can locate that file. I am suppose to be able to fix the problem with the Inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) I can't find that file. I get zero results using Windows Search. Furthermore, when I run Micsrosoft Office Diagnostic it tells me that no problems are found. But the fact remains that I can't open Microsoft Office Outlook this morning.

Only thing I can think of is that it might be a hidden file. You can show hidden files by opening a folder, going to the tool menu->folder options->view and check the button under Hidden Files & Folders to display all files.

Reading the Microsoft KB article about it, it appears scanpst is located at
Code: Select all
<disk drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12

If it's not there, I'm not sure what to suggest beyond contacting dell and/or microsoft.

It appears that the Inbox repair tool, does not exist on my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007. Again everything works but Outlook. I guess it is the Geek Squad for me, unless someone can suggest a better local service alternative.
