They don't make em like they used to. Old sewing machines

by MichelleS » Sun Nov 02, 2008 8:50 am

I'm looking for an old 1950's-1970's sewing machine with nice sturdy metal parts. I have a dead Brother and I have started to replace it, but everything I read says if I just fix an old one I'll get a better machine, so I don't even care if it works.

I've been checking craigslist and freecycle but I have not had any luck.

If you or your mother, grandmother or aunt has some old beast that is gathering dust, I'd love to fix it up and give it a loving home.

On that same note...I have a 1970's Singer sewing machine that needs repair. Since Baer's Fabrics closed, does anyone know of an experienced place or person that can do repairs?

I can recommend Highland Vac and Sew.

They helped me a lot when I was trying to keep that Brother running. They are very nice and knowledgeable. I liked them so much for telling me that I shouldn't bother fixing it anymore because it wasn't worth the price. They could have taken my money anyway or they could have turned it into a sales pitch to get me to buy something new but they didn't.
