Holy crap. OK, so I don't shop at Value City much anymore. But I have fond memories of my poor college student days, 30 years or so ago, walking out with a huge bag of tshirts for $15...

I believe that these are the "left over" locations that Burlington Coat Factory didnot want to buy.

We stopped in the Clarksville Value City on Saturday night, looking for cheap comforters for a friend to use for her dogs' kennels. We were surprised that there were big discounts on everything. She bought five $9.99 quilts with 10% discounts on each. The cashier told us that they just found out about the closing last Tuesday. She did tell us that Value City FURNITURE will remain in business.

This really surprises me. I would have thought that someplace like Value City would be doing well during these and past bumpy economic times.

I use to be a BIG Value City shopper ... late 90s, that is where I bought most of my wardrobe. I noticed a very big change about 5 years ago in their quality of merchandise. My trips became fewer and fewer as their clothing became less and less desirable. The last two trips I made were extremely disappointing. My take is that I wasn't the only unsatisfied customer. It was, however, a sad thing to hear about. :(

Although I have been much more in control in the past year, I used to go to Value City every spring and every fall for shoes. Man, I had some absolutely beautiful high heels that I got from VC for half the price I would have paid at Dillards.
Don't wear high heels or suits anymore (just went through a major shoe giveaway), and have been trying not to shop so much (this was even before the economy went bad), but I will have fond memories of those great bargains!

I don't know about shopping, but when giving directions to the store people that don't know where Male High, the fairgrounds or the airport is always know where Value City is. This will probably have a greater effect on our business than the economy.

I always forgot about Value City for clothes, but am sad to hear about them closing. Or any businesses, for that matter. These times are scary, but I won't go political like I'm tempted to. Has anyone here ever been to a Gabriel Brothers?? Talk about BARGAINS. It's a close out place, and you have to check things out because a lot are irregulars, etc. And you have be willing to 'shop shop', and I don't normally like to shop, but I love shopping here! They have one in my hometown, which we just visited this weekend. I got 13 tops (mostly sweaters), 1 pair of jeans, 6 pairs of socks, and 3 unmentionables for just under $104!!!! Most of the sweaters I got were $5.99. My husband got a really nice lightweight Claiborne jacket for $24.99, and a pair of brown dress shoes for $10. I hate to shop, but I love a bargain!!!!! But I totally digress.
