Looking for a Realtor

by Steve A » Fri Oct 17, 2008 6:40 am

My wife and I are making another trip to Louisville to get a better feel for the city and figure out where specifically we might want to relocate to.

I was wondering if anybody here might have a recommendation for a realtor? So far, we're interested in the Highlands, Crescent Hill, and St. Matthews, and would really prefer to talk with somebody who has a good familiarity with those areas.

The only caveat is that we're not ready to move this year as our house in Maine hasn't sold, so this is more of an exploratory visit and won't result in a quick sale for the real estate professional.

While I'm at it, I've suggested an offline meetup on October 27th, and we would love to get together with whoever might be available.

I was really happy with my realtor Linda Hill. She came highly recommended to me from others as well. We bought in the Germantown area.

I would recommend Zach Fry. http://www.mrlouisvillerealestate.com

Steve, I mentioned in another recent thread that Deborah Stewart did a very good job for us when we were selling a house before we moved to NYC in 1990, and buying one when we moved back in 1994. She has lived in Butchertown and Old Louisville and definitely understands clients who prefer urban neighborhoods and city living to the suburbs.

Here's her Website ... feel free to mention that we sent you, although you might mention my wife Mary Johnson's name as well as mine, as she's known Mary better and for a longer time.

I suggest looking into Michael Jones with the http://www.brelandgroup.com/. Many of my neighbors have bought and sold with him and enjoyed his services. He mainly serves the area being looked into.

Steve,

I'll put a plug in for Tom Cox of Four Square Realty in Crestwood...His focus is primarily in Oldham County properties but we found him to be an excellent realtor who was familiar with the entire Louisville metro. He is a first class individual in every way. Realtors aside, we just moved to Louisville ourselves back in early September and if your relocation experience is anything like ours you will LOVE it here. After only six weeks in residence we can't imagine ever wanting to live anywhere else.

After going through three realtors, each one worse than the last, I found a real gem in Bev Sherrard with Remax Action First.
http://www.louisville-home.com/
She was professional, smart and did everything she promised she would do regarding selling my home. Also helped me find a great home all within my location, time frame and price range. After working with some horror stories, Ms Sherrard was truly fantastic. And no, I don't get $ for referrals. I'm just a fan cause she really did a great job.

I'm going to add to the list by reccomending Bill Clark with Semonin Realtors(552-0667). It's important to choose a realtor who is experienced and knows the area well and he personifies that. I believe he's been in the business for 20+ years, specializing in Highlands and St. Matthews,Crescent Hill.... I appreciate a realtor who's purchased dozens of painstaking restorations and renovations. for resale, improving a lot of homes most people would just want to bulldoze. Whether you go with him or not some things I'd suggest...
1. Realtors who have been in the business for a long time, and can evaluate and ensure you find the best value for your money. With that a realtor who is tenured, they have seen and been through virtually any scenario that may arise in your buying/selling process.
2. Find out sales for the past few years. During the "boom", many part timers flooded the business and can't possibly ensure you are getting the knowledge base and experience needed to make this as seamless as possible.

Just remember... It's the largest investment most people own. With discount brokers and fly by nighters, it has really affected the perception of the many long term, experienced professionals.

We have worked with Vance Peers of Remax Connections a couple of times over the past several years. He helped us buy our first house in the Highlands and he sold that house for us about this time last year. We also worked with him to buy our current house in the Brownsboro Rd area. He's very experienced with Highlands, St Matthews, Crescent Hill real estate. He came Highly recommended to us and I would definitely use him again if we ever move. He's a laid back, easy to work with guy. He tolerated my daily 9:00AM calls when we were trying to sell our house (in the Highlands) last year.

Vance's number is 744-8844

Good luck with your move.
