Courtesy and safety on the road

by Jesse Hendrix-Inman » Wed Oct 15, 2008 9:40 am

So there have been two accidents involving cyclists recently, and today as I was driving to work (a short 15 minute drive through Germantown, Phoenix Hill and Clifton), I counted three vehicles that sped through red lights as I was stopping in the lane next to them. Two of them sped up as the light was yellow and passed through the intersection as it turned red, and one just flat out gunned it as they saw the light turn red and sped through anyway.

I really don't understand how people can justify endangering everyone else on the road to save what-two or three minutes? I just wanted to put this out there to remind everyone to watch out and be careful-there are some crazy impatient people on the road! :x

Well put! I chuckle daily at the one's who speed thru a light, and get caught at the next one, just for me to pass them again......

Also, do people realize the white lines on the road are put there for a reason......

I was almost plowed into on my way home from work this afternoon by a very senior gentleman who managed to take up both lanes of traffic, with his swerving, and straddling the white line on the road. I'm all for adopting the whole " driving test after a certain age" law that many other states have. I've seen many a biker or pedestrian nearly mowed over by someone who did not appear to have the cognitive skills and reflexes necessary to be driving a large piece of machinery. Not to let younger drivers off the hook. We're usually the ones blowing through yellow lights and talking on our cell phones while we should be paying attention to the road.

Amen, and to make matters worse, in the not too distant future we will be dealing with that white stuff that falls from the sky and sticks to the ground. I just LOVE how people drive around here with that four letter word around......

My husband is from Wyoming, and giggles at our snow panic. Here, an inch of snow has the potential to shut down the city. There, a foot of snow won't keep them off the roads. Thankfully I have less than a mile drive to work, as I am guilty of being a bad driver in snow. Of course, at this rate, we might not see snow. It's Mid-October and still hot as Hell out.
