Brightside Community Wide Cleanup

Over 4000 volunteers have signed up to participate in the annual Brightside Fall Community Wide Cleanup, sponsored by CITI scheduled for Saturday, October 25th. If you have not signed up yet, do so promptly to ensure your group receives the complimentary event T-shirts.

Metro United Way is seeking teams of volunteers to assist senior citizens, disabled and homebound residents who need clean up assistance after Hurricane Ike. We know that many of you are already “storm weary” and have already signed up for the Brightside Community Wide Cleanup – but if you have some extra energy, Metro United Way and our community has a need. They have received over 800 calls for assistance and are looking for neighborhood associations, condo associations, subdivisions, Suburban Cities, church groups, social groups, sororities/fraternities, Corporate Volunteer Groups, etc to match with those needing assistance.

We ask you to help by forming as many teams of four (4) volunteers as possible to help clear yard debris from their yards and walkways. Metro United Way will match your team(s) with a homeowner(s) in need.

To sign up to volunteer, just DIAL 2-1-1 from any phone and tell them you want to volunteer. They’ll ask for a CONTACT NAME, and NUMBER, and the number of other volunteers you can bring for a TEAM. Team information will be sent to the contact person. Any questions, call Mary Sullivan at 292-6154.

If there is one thing the events of the last two weeks have taught us, it's the enduring value of community. And our community is only as strong as our individual and collective willingness to give of our time, talent and treasure to help those in need. When the winds of Hurricane Ike blew in on Sept. 14th, neighborhoods from Southern Indiana through the farthest eastern areas of Oldham County, faced power outages, downed trees, blocked streets and damaged homes and workplaces. The Metro United Way 2-1-1 line, our 24/7, three digit information line, received more than 700 requests for help with storm debris from seniors, disabled and homebound residents in the seven counties Metro United Way supports. And the number continues to rise.

We've survived by pulling together, and helping each other. We need you to continue this generosity of spirit!
