Last Weekend for the Heart of St. Matthews Farmers' Market

by Russ Meredith » Thu Oct 02, 2008 3:23 pm

Hello Everyone!
Before anyone goes to the main attraction this weekend (I think there's an art fair right?) come on out to the Heart of St. Matthews Farmers' Market where we will be celebrating our last day of the season.
Our featured nonprofit organizations will be The Food Literacy Project and Volunteers of America. We will also have musical guest "Big Poppa Stampley" laying down some blues.
This is the last weekend for the farmers' market and we will be sad to see everyone go but we have to admit it has been a great season. We appreciate everyone coming out in support of our vendors and they have extended their gratitude to all their customers. Thank you to all the people who have made the market possible and especially to all those who decided to eat healthy, locally grown foods from the farmers we trust. As a matter of fact, just go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back for being conscious of your own health too. Once again thank you for being supportive of the market and we hope to see you guys this weekend!

Russ please tell me there are plans to do this again next year. I've loved going out to the market on Saturday mornings. Can't you just add a couple of more weekends while the weather holds? P P P P P Puhleeze ?! (apologies to Roger Rabbit)

I do apologize for the abrupt ending to the season but this weekend was actually not scheduled to be part of the regular season. I requested that we extend the market into November but the Beargrass Christian Church has prior obligations that will prevent us from setting up in their parking lots. They could only allow us to go til October 4th so I moved our closing weekend up. Thank you for being such a patron and I am glad to say "Yes!", I am definitely coming back as market manager next year and the market will continue as long as possible. Hope to see you on Saturday!

By the way, I don't think Roger Rabbit minds but you might want to ask Jack Warner! That was my favorite movie growing up as a kid!

So I visited the final St Matt's farmers market yesterday and , of course, didn't take enough cash. (There is never enough cash when I get there.) I did find out that some of the stalls will still be at other outdoor markets for a few more weekends. It seems there will be one in Pee Wee Valley in a couple weeks. Anybody know anything about it?

Russ I look forward to next years' market with much anticipation. Thanks for supplying me with a great Saturday morning activity. Outdoor activity. Public, outdoor activity.

At least one of the vegetable vendors will be at Suburban Christian Church (7515 Westport Rd) from 4-8 Thursdays for the rest of October. Their flier says they are there from May through October.

Remember also that Stan and Leila Gentle and others are getting together to carry on a Saturday Farmer's Market and breakfast at Stan's in St. Matthews on alternate weekends through November, at least. Details here:
