My cat needs a new home...

by Ethan Ray » Wed Sep 24, 2008 12:03 pm

I couldn't think of a better place to do this, and would rather start here than calling animal shelters. :(

I have two cats, but this one is really taking it's toll on me.

She goes from phases of hiding constantly, attacking my other cat, hissing at everything, etc.
She's in good health, but just seems to be angry. (my other cat is as loving and docile as ever)
I've had this cat for 4 years and the other for 3, and she continually over the years has becomes less friendly, has taken to not using her litterbox - and using everything else instead.
She's been like this off an on for years, so it's not really a change of environment thing.

My girlfriend is planning on moving in next month and i got the "it's the cats or me" speech.
I managed to convince her to let me keep the "good" cat, but the other has to go.

She has been spayed, still has her claws and pretty much just wants to you to feed her, otherwise doesn't want to have anything to do with anyone.

She's very much the solitary kittie... I'm beginning to think she'd be best as an outdoor cat, probably best as a barn/farm cat.

Truthfully, she'd probably do fine indoors, as the only animal in the house, and with patient adults who are at home more than i am.

If you are interested, or know someone with a farm/barn or just want an outdoor cat, please contact me via PM, email (ethanjray@gmail.com) or reply here.

I really do love this cat, and don't want to take her to an animal shelter -to potentially be put down- if i don't have to.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

Aw, I would love to take the kitty, but I have one a lot like her at home and it would probably end up being kitty death match. It sounds like your cat would be an amazing mouser in a barn or on a farm. Good luck!

If nobody else seems able to take her let us know. We have a farm and greenhouse business out here with many cats. Our general rule for taking in new cats is that they have to have a hard luck story or phisical problems that prevents them from being adopted by others. She sounds like maybe she would be best in a single cat environment but we would turn her out with our "herd" if nothing better comes up.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Thanks John.

No luck so far, and I've been given a deadline of "the cat is gone Monday or I am"...

So I'll let you know in the day or so.

Have you taken her to the vet to make sure that there's not a medical issue? We had a female cat that started going outside the litter box and it turns out that she was prone to urinary tract infections. When they have a UTI, they associate the litter box with pain and start going elsewhere. Fix the UTI and they go back to the litter box. This could also explain her grumpiness. It's worth a shot.

I'm with checking with your vet first. However sometimes cats get funny. We had 3 cats and went thru move and one just was not right after that. So now she is a basement cat all by herself but our den is down there so she gets love on a regular basis. She/he kitty could also be reacting to the girlfriend. I had a friend once who bought a house with her fiancee and she demanded that the cat get declawed before they moved in together...then they moved into the new house. Well...shortly after that it only took a couple of days for this cat to "act out". My friend was really upset and put her in a room where the cat would not do any more damage. When my friend was upset about the cat defiling her new home I told her the following.."Let me put this into perspective for you. You are an animal who's owner is a person who feeds you, loves you and gives you shelter. Then some other being comes into his life, is the center of attention and then...she demands that your claws be taken out and you are relocated to a new home with different smells, sounds and another being to disrupt your life. After that while you are dealing with your entire world changing...you get locked into a room...by yourself." My friend says to this day she remembers that speech. And after that she gave kitty much more love. They've since divorced. I'm not sure who got the cat. Cats are animals but domesticated cats are creatures of habit and they have a really hard time adjusting. Good luck...wish I could take her in. There is an organization called the alley cat society that might be able to help out. Off topic but has anyone seen the utube videos of simon's cat. Very funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0ffwDYo00Q

I started to say that but demurred. I'll say in general, though, that ultimatums over fundamental disagreements seem to me a very unfortunate way to start a relationship off on a new level.
