Pools for lap swimming?

by Jesse Hendrix-Inman » Tue Sep 23, 2008 7:56 am

Is there anywhere besides the Meagher Aquatic Center in the Germantown, Highlands or Frankfort Ave. area that has an indoor pool for lap swimming? I tried the Meagher but it was so crowded, with 20 lanes but only 3 available for lap swimming! I might be interested in joining a gym if they have plenty of space devoted to swimmers.

JCC has an indoor pool with lap lanes. It is not very large, but I've never seen more than 1 or 2 people using it at once.

Both the YMCA (Millbrook) and Milestone Fitness have lap pools. For the Y, it just depends on what time you go. They have up to six lanes available ... I usually go around 9:30 a.m. and it isn't too crowded.

Thanks-what is JCC?

Also, there appears on Google maps to be a YMCA on Crittenden Drive. Anyone know about that one?

Thanks again!

JCC - Jewish Community Center. They're located on Duthcmans Lane. (And no, you don't have to be Jewish to join.) They have really nice facilities. Great classes too. Plus, they have a great outdoor pool in the summertime that makes membership a plus. If you have another adult to join with you, you can get a family membership. Give them a call - I'm pretty sure they'll give you a day pass if you're considering membership.

The YMCA on Critenden is the Safe Place offices, no facilities. The YMCA at 2nd and Chestnut has a great pool, but I do not know about availability for laps.
