Looking for pet foster home

by Alanna H » Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:35 pm

Looking for someone who can 'foster' my cat for the next 6-8 weeks until my new home is ready. Currently staying with a friend who is already over the pet limit at her apartment and none of my other friends/family can help. I've called several adoption groups but none of them have room for a foster right now.
Simon is 5 1/2 years old, neutered, and indoors-only. He is not de-clawed, I just keep his nails trimmed myself. Not sure how he would do around other animals...he was fine with our dog whom we had to recently have euthanized, but our dog was a calm senior citizen who kept to himself and did not try to engage the cat in 'play'. He loves people, kids, and is very social...sleeps with you at night and sits with you on the couch. Or on your shoulder like a parrot when you are at the computer ;-)
I will provide food and litter, but this is NOT an adoption or sale, this would be temporary for two months MAXIMUM. I prefer someone who has their own house so I don't have to worry about landlords, leases, and all that good stuff. I am currently staying in J-Town and it would be great if he could be somewhere close by.
I would want to bring him over and check the house and make sury everything is good...I would not just pass him over in a parking lot or something.
Again, this is a foster situation, I am not looking for someone to adopt him. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old and I think I like him better than my kids! Please PM or email me at arholden@msn.com , thanks!

I desperately wish we could help, Alanna ... he sounds like a precious boy! Alas, our oversize cat family would repel any intruders.

I hope someone on the forum will step forward, though. Just out of curiosity, what color is he? From your description of his wonderful personality, I'm guessing that he's in the ginger/apricot/champagne/orange range ... they're the friendliest cats ever.

Robin, he is solid black. First black cat I've had...even though I grew up with cats and didn't get my first dog until I was a teenager, I have never really been a cat person until this guy came along. He definitely does not go by the typical cat protocol of hiding away and only socializing when he deems fit; he is a constant companion.

Alanna,

If I didn't own Satan incarnate  (OK, she can be sweet ... but only when SHE wants to be), I would be happy to help as I fit the bill. I have a particular affection for black kitties ... both of my babies have been black ... Ebbie was a lot like your baby. Sheeba, on the other hand ....

Give Christine, Anita or Jo a call at The Cat Clinic (584-7055) They might be able to refer you to someone that can help you out.

Thanks Rebecca, I called them yesterday and they took my information in case they hear of anyone who can help. Right now I'm boarding him, but hopefully I will find somebody soon.

Hi Alanna,

I truly wish I could help, but I found a stray this weekend and brought her home (husband not thrilled). And am now in the process of "introducing" the new kitten to our 15 pound bruiser, tomcat who actually owns this house. We've had some bloodshed already. I hope you find a nice place for your cat while you're in transition. Good luck!

Another thought....Give Feeder Supply a call. The Shamrock Society fosters are always in the location by the stock yards. Maybe they will have some ideas. Maybe a kind hearted foster would take him in return for a donation to the Shamrock Society since they are non-profit.

Alanna,
I've sent you a PM (I think...never done that before!) I have a lovely mother inlaw who is interested in fostering. No kitties at home at present, lives in a patio home by herself. Your cat will be very spoiled and loved.

Alana - Call the Kentucky Humane Society. They have a foster program for their animals, and they can probably find you a volunteer. 502-366-3355.
