Best Gardening and Landscaping Supply

by Steve P » Tue Aug 05, 2008 1:37 pm

All,

Can anyone recommend a good locally owned garden and/or landscaping supply center in eastern J-C or Oldham County ? We're looking for a place that is known for having a wide variety of quality tree/shrub stock and expert advice.

Thank You.

Welcome to Oldham Co.!!! There is a large nursery out of LaGrange on Hwy 146 called Starview Nursery. We have found them knowledgable and helpful. I'm going to try to attach their website but if it doesn't work just Goggle the name.

Wallitsch is very good for plants and materials, one of the best. Might not be quite as convenient to Oldham County for Steve, but hey, he could combine it with a trip to Al Watan!

One caution: Mary hired Wallitsch for a fairly large landscaping project a couple of years ago, and was disappointed with both the results and their responsiveness to complaints.

I can recommend Boone Gardiner, and they have just moved their business to Crestwood. They have been in business for years and Matt Gardiner is extremely knowledgable. My crazy parents have a 35 acre garden with unusual tree specimens and Matt has supplied some. Also highly recommend the Carl Ray Co. See Mike Ray.

I ditto Amy's recommendation. Matt from Boone Gardiner helped me design the large plantings for my main beds and planted the shrubs 10 years ago. He was very knowledgeable, had great plants/trees and was a real pleasure to work with. Haven't been out to their new place yet but you are really lucky to have such a wonderful garden center near by.

All,

Boone Gardiner and Starview both sound like what we're looking for. The fact that both of them are just a "hop and a skip" from our house just about guarantees they will be the recipients of at least half of our disposable income. Thanks a bunch.

Steven,

Depending on what you are looking for, I have divisions of Perennial's that I'd be happy to share in the the fall. I not very far from oldham County (by the Summit) Let me know if you are interested (always happy to share with others into gardening).

Deb,

We might just take you up on your offer...Becky is the primary flower gardener (I'm the Veggie Guy) and I have no idea what she has planned at this point. A lot is going to depend on what we find when we get to Louisville. We actually bought this house in May and then rented it back to the seller for a period of time. We don't know what is currently in the beds or if they have even been given any love this summer. I suppose I'll just anticipate a "worst case" scenario (that we'll have a month of weeding once we get settled) and be pleasantly surprised if it's otherwise.
