I heard they closed. I hope it's an ugly rumor.

No it's definitely true! :(

There was a post about it last week I think, and I drove by on Monday and it was locked up tight with some sort of sign on the door that I couldn't read on my way by.

Also discussed in this thread:

CJ finally had a fairly detailed story today. The knee-jerk impression is that Fifth Third Bank cut them no slack on a loan, but I also find it troubling that neither the Baer's owner, Mr. Goldberg, or his attorney, would discuss this thing with the media. Seems to me they ought to know that the community is on their side, and that nothing would help push Fifth Third much more than a good old-fashioned uproar.

Unless, of course, the bank is being reasonable and the store people were really in the wrong. It's so complicated when a story has two sides ...

It's a very sad statement indeed when Baers, and Dawahares/Cat Bird Seat which have been in operation for more than 100 years have no choice but to close their doors. I, for one, am extreamly concerned by this current trend the economy is taking (as I'm sure most of my follow bloggers are). It just puts an emphasis on the importance of supporting the locals, buying local when you have to buy, and making sure your neighbor is taken care of.

Seen the chart on FITB lately?

The regional banks are hurting, PNC excepted. I'm sure there is tons of pressure on the bank as well.
