feeling the increase in prices now

by Ellen White » Fri Jul 18, 2008 7:45 pm

Well, bought gas 2 days ago at $4.15 per gallon; now it's down to $4.01. Let's hope it keeps going down.
On the other hand, I went to buy some dog food today. When I bought a 20-pound bag two weeks ago, the price was $15.99. Today, the price is $18.99 for an 18 pound bag. Hey, that's the way they do it: reduce the product size and increase the price.

I drove my mom down to Cave City today to meet my sis. I filled up my empty tank down there and it cost $59.22 with the price at $3.94.9 a gallon. Folks, this is for a Volkswagen New Beetle with a 5 speed manual tranny. When I bought the car in 2003, there was no way I could put even $20.00 worth of gas in it. Oh well, I guess this is what they call LIFE.

Also, here is the new One dollar bill being considered for circulation.

We were over in Southern Indiana today and filled up for $3.99 at the Kroger on 10th Street in Jeff with the Kroger card discount. I can't believe I was crowing about what a great deal I was getting! (And I'm also mighty glad my Matrix will fill up with about 8 gallons and take me for about three or four weeks on them. :)

I don't usually believe or pay attention to political ads, but one of the ads said something about an automatic increasing gasoline tax for Kentucky. If that is true, then maybe that tax needs to be changed. In the meantime, travel over here to Indiana and get the gas a little cheaper,( although not very much cheaper) and stop in at some of the fine dining establishments that this strange little area has to offer.

From what I understand about the tax, Alan, the amount of it is a tiny, tiny fraction of the price we're paying these days, and eliminating it is not going to address the problem. If you look around Louisville and Kentucky and see all the critical services that are being cut (not excluding pothole maintenance), it's probably getting to be time for people to remember that taxation with representation is the way we run our country.

But then, I haven't really been following the thing either. Bottom line, tax or no tax, Indiana prices today seemed exactly in line with Louisville. I was just bragging about the deal I got at Kroger because I had my Kroger card, and the Kroger's we go to over here don't have gas stations. <shrug>

Thanks for the info, I really didn't know anything about the tax, serves me right for listening to those political ads. You're right about the gas prices, but I can sometimes find cheaper prices than what I see in the Ville. I had hoped that the merger would have helped with some of the financial woes. But Kentucky is faced with statewide financial woes right now, not unlike several other states. I don't mind paying taxes, and this is still the best form of government available in the world today. Amazing, considering that the Founding Fathers couldn't come to complete agreement on everything, and some thought that the new system wouldn't last. What I am really disappointed about is that the automakers have the ability to make cars with alternative fuels or greatly enhanced gas performance, but haven't really stepped up. I am speaking about Ford, my favorite auto group, I KNOW they have plans for motors that can get up to 100 mpg. I was just hoping that they would be the first to release them, give me relief, and themselves fame and fortune.

Yup - it increased by 1.5 cents per gallon - I believe it's about 21 cents per gallon total now. It increases automatically based on the wholesale price of gasoline. It used to be an annual reset, but I think it is quarterly now.

The only thing that bugs me about this tax is that so many roads in Kentucky are built to, uh, "encourage" votes.

Sounds like the area seems to be keeping trend with the rest of the States on the prices. I was told by someone at work (You know how that goes!!) that they ( being analysts?) expect the gasoline price to stabilize at $4.50 or so. But that the price may rise as high as $5 for a short time. I don't think anyone can predict what will happen, but I don't think the prices will go down any time soon. I am currently planning on tilling up the back yard and putting in a large garden. Fresh is best.

Plow on brother. I think it's hilarious that people believe gasloline for under 4 dollars a gallon is a bargain. Folks, we put ourselves into this situation, get over it. When OPEC embargoed us many years ago we didn't get the message. Now we truly pay. 60 dollars to fill a Beetle. Just look at George on the 1 dollar bill.

An interesting documentary to see if you have Netflix or can find it at a rental house is, "Who Killed The Electric Car?" If, in real life, GM has the capability to put a car on the market with an electric battery that will hold a charge for 600 miles @ 70 MPH you have to wonder why they don't put it out there. Texeco bought the right to the aforementioned battery BTW. I think it's in that warehouse seen in Indiana Jones.

Be thankful you don't live in Zimbabwe (formerly known as Rhodesia).

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080719/bs ... 0719174524
Zimbabwe introduces 100-billion-dollar note

HARARE (AFP) - Zimbabwe, grappling with a record 2.2 million percent inflation, has introduced a new 100-billion-dollar bank note in a bid to tackle rampant cash shortages, the central bank said Saturday.

The southern African nation, currently gripped by a post-election crisis, has been ravaged by hyperinflation which shot up from 165,000 percent in February to 2.2 million in June.

Independent economists however believe the official inflation figure is grossly understated, estimating it could be running between 10 million and 15 million percent.

Everybody is a Gazillionaire in Zimbabwe !!!!!!!!!!

If I remember correctly, all of those elec. cars were retrieved from the test drivers and smashed. Kind of what DuPont did to the "hemp" industry...

The only problem I have with electric cars, is that we charge them on power plants that burn coal to make the energy. I know that many plants today use hydro electric, and this would be a greener way to help the environment and the budget. But in those areas where the energy is made by coal, I think it could make matters worse. The reason I am becoming more "green" is because of my daughter, and the other kids I see today. I really want to try to make their tomorrow a little easier. Besides, when I am in a nursing home, I still want to be in the AC, with my lights on , and my oxygen machine running, and my microwave popcorn. (he he he...)
