Get your ugly lamps ready!

If you've ever eaten at Lynn's Paradise Cafe you know they have a passion for good food and an eye for quirky style.

Well, each year for the past decade the Louisville restaurant has sponsored an Ugly Lamp Contest in conjunction with the Kentucky State Fair. Now they are hoping you will answer the call for the 11th annual contest.

The contest includes two categories:
Born ugly: for those lamps that were ugly just the way they were originally designed and made.
Made ugly: for lamps that you took and made ugly yourself.

The grand champion of the contest wins free breakfast every week for a year. Seriously, can you think of much better than bacon, bourbon french toast, omelets or whatever else you can eat (don't forget the side of biscuits) for an entire year?

You can enter as many lamps as you want. Bring lamps to Lynn's, at 984 Barrett Ave., by Aug. 11.

The lamps will go on display at the Fair from Aug. 14 to Aug. 24. Judging will take place at 3 p.m. on Aug. 16.

Don't forget this is a family event so lamps should be family friendly. They should also be safe to operate and able to be moved without a forklift.

If you have questions, give a shout to the restaurant at 583-3447.

Trust me. After viewing the lamps in last year's contest, this is a must-see part of the fair. You won't want to miss it. Some of the lamps will make you laugh. Some will creep you out. And others will just make you wonder what our grandparents were thinking when they bought that lamp.
