Heads Up

by robert szappanos » Thu Jun 26, 2008 4:09 pm

It looks as if we will have a very good chance of Severe Weather Saturday and Saturday night across north central Kentucky. The best time period for Louisville will be between 5 pm and midnight. It is a strong cold front that will trigger the activity off...Not saying that this will be a major outbreak but a few weather watches are likely to be issued during the day Saturday and into the evening....Looks to be more of Severe thunderstorms then Tornadoes. :)

Thanks Robert, Is it still looking like trouble for Saturday eve? My thinking would be that if we have enough cloud cover during the day it should limit convection quite a bit. My biggest concern is for hail in Spencer Co.. I have alot of crops out now and it always gets us nervous. Anyway, may not agree with all your resturant posts, but we do appreciate the work you do on http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lmk . Saw your name under a special weather statement just the other day.

It still look good...or bad...depending how you look at it for severe weather from about 5 pm through midnight on Saturday. The biggest concern will be with large hail and damaging winds....but by Sunday through at least next Wednesday real nice...dry with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 50s to the lower 60s and low humidity....Not bad for this time of the year....

I live in Hikes Point, and it was AWFUL last night. My hubby and I were eating dinner when it hit, and almost had to jump under the table at one point, when the branches from our Ginko tree started whipping around, and hit our kitchen windows. Luckily, the force wasn't enough to break them. I've never seen wind that strong without sirens going off.

The outdoor sirens are only sounded if a Tornado Warning is issued....Last night a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issues....That means Hail 3/4 of an inch or larger and or wInd gusts to 58MPH. What you had last night was straight line wind and a possible micro burst.....NOT a Tornado....Remember the sirens are for people that are outside. They are not meant to be used for people indise a building...that is why a NOAA Weather Radio is the best thing you can have at home. You get the warning in less than 2 seconds after I push the send button at the office.... :)

Thanks so much for keeping us informed. Robert. It is a real help when deciding whether to open the patio or not.

I did not work thus evening...But we blew it....It seems as if the rain overnight and the lingering cloud cover might have killed the severe for late afternoon and evening....O well I am in a job where you are expected to be wrong at times and right others....

Well......at my house this afternoon around 4:30 or 4:45 we had some high wind, torrential rain of about 1.5 inches and alot of cloud to ground lightning. It blew up right across the river near 14 mile creek and plowed right on through here. I was heading out and by the time I got out to Prospect on 42 it was sunny and very pleasant and dry as a chip. I'm glad we got the rain at my place as we really needed it.

Honestly I can imagine it's one of the most frustrating jobs to have.
