Ethics Reform...

by robert szappanos » Wed Jun 11, 2008 9:31 pm

So much for the New Governer and Ethics Reform...Same old Frankfort...

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Education Commissioner Jon Draud says he used bad judgment in having the state buy him a Chrysler 300 car with $13,000 in upgrades.

Draud was speaking at the Kentucky Board of Education meeting Wednesday morning and addressed the controversial automobile purchase. Draud said he regrets any problems he caused the board, but stopped short of apologizing for his actions.

Draud said he hopes to move past the vehicle purchase.

Draud ordered a 2008 Chrysler 300 with a base price of $18,101. Options including an engine upgrade, global positioning system and a handsfree telephone pushed the price to more than $30,000.

I read this in the C-J when it came out. Will someone explain to me how an engine upgrade (hemi?), GPS and hands-free phone added $11,899. to the base price. Something is remiss here.

Draud has agreed to pay for the "extras." Good decision.

From my understanding of the "facts" presented; Draud had final say on the price, when questioned by the finance department and given a chance to get the base model Chevy ($15,000) everyone else uses, he declined citing "safety" issues. Then he tried to deny the conversation took place.

If he is allowed to keep his job he should have to pay every penny over the base model Chevy price - the $15,000 difference.

As I understand the news, David, that is what will happen. Too much public pressure, I suppose.

Robert, you had it right the first time; WE pay for the gas not the state.

Hell, i don't even own a car. Will all you nice folks pitch in and buy me one. I don't need a hemi, GPS or HF phone... :D
