This is from the CJ - but despite that, this is a cool event! I have a Nelson sculpture and love his work - and he's a good guy who would be fun for the kids to hang with for a bit while you enjoy Yew Dell.
Children this Saturday will get a chance to learn the art during a workshop at Yew Dell Gardens in Crestwood. They’ll learn a three-step process for stone carving and take home a limestone necklace charm.
The event is from 11 a.m. to noon and features local sculptor Al Nelson.
A second stone-carving workshop will be held June 28 and feature local sculptor John McCarthy. It’s for children ages 6 to 12 and will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Both workshops are free. Yew Dell Gardens is at 6220 Old LaGrange Road and can be contacted at 241-4788.
