C-J website stinks

by Ron Johnson » Thu May 29, 2008 7:53 am

I stopped taking the Courier years ago. I just couldn't justify the cost for something I could read front to back in about seven minutes. So, since then I have relied on the website to keep up with current local news. But now I give up. The website just keeps getting worse. With each "upgrade" the website becomes more confusing and unorganized. It's current format is an all time low for ease of use. It has become more and more difficult to find news articles. It is slow, clunky, laden with pop-up ads, and is always requiring you to take a survey to get to the article you want to read. Who designed this disaster? I'm done with it.

I agree but dont agree.....If you compare it to the web sites from wave fox and whas...It is 100 percent better...At least the CJ updates during the day...but they are slow also....As far as the other sites they are very slow or do not update at all...I see this for news and weather....

I haven't been to the TV station websites, so I can't compare, but I just can't believe that Gannett cannot do a better, and an easier to navigate, website for their newspapers.

I could not agree more. It's impossible to find anything in a small number of clicks, it seems. And the message board links on the front page are to really old topics that seemed to have trailed off. It's just terrible.

Hear! Hear! THANK YOU for confirming to me that I am not the only one who has given up on what use to be a fairly navigable and interesting site. Their "upgrades" have been extremely frustrating. Maybe this is their way of getting people to subscribe to their printed paper ...

Why even read a paper...The news is old as it is being printed.....It is kind of like WDRB had a commercial about the 10 pm news....At 10 pm it is news...by 11 PM it is history....The only time I look at a paper is on Sunday for the coupons...

I really enjoy reading a paper. I cannot tolerate the morons on television news. Spending a lesiurely morning with the Sunday NY Times is one of life's truly enjoyable experiences.

Also, if you want access to something that was posted on the website more than 5 days prior (not sure of the actual time frame, but it's very quick), you have to purchase the story from their "archives." This results even if you get the story from a Google News search. DUMB.

I get it - a way to make money when lots of people have stopped taking the CJ in paper. Still, week-old stories are archived??? C'mon.

I sooo completely agree. I was looking up an article I read in teh CJ the other day to send to an out of town relative. I couldn't remember which day I saw it so I tried the search functionality. It was so bad I gave up and googled it. Of course google took me to the article in a second.

I must admit we still subscribe, but I'd get rid of it if we didn't have some school aged kids. They're often asked to cut things out of the paper for various assignments. Besides, I still like the comics, lol.

Yep the new website is TERRIBLE. I don't even bother anymore.

Totally unrelated, but is there ANY way to STOP the delivery of that annoying YES supplement in the pink bag that is showing up in our yard every damn Sunday?!?!

I concur - the upgrades to the website have been consistently horrible. As for the garbage they throw in our driveways - mine goes straight in the recycling box.

I don't know, I guess I'm "Old School", and I like having that "hard copy' in my hands...

But, I'm ready to give it up too...While reading the Sports page yesterday, they left out a whole sentence (or who knows what else) Bullet point about out local baseball team the Bat's....

I've seen better high school rags than the C-J... And it's a real shame!... At least most of the time some kid will give more insight than the sorry excuse we have for a local newspaper will!...

I could go on a major rant here, but enough of you already know what I'm talking about!!!!
