BTW, I'm not above rolling my eyes when a "business opportunity" is presented as "Christian-based."

I checked--Pura Vida is indeed founded by Christians. I know their church pretty well. At least one of the two was a Microsoft early millionaire who retired and asked himself how he could use business for good. Pretty interesting story.

Hobby Lobby is another...They are closed on Sunday and I applaud them for it...There is nothing wrong with being of the faith either as a individual or a bussiness... :D

I'd be more supportive if I weren't so opposed to the very idea of "crafts." The founder of Hobby Lobby was the person who bailed out Oral Roberts University . . . as long as Richard Roberts was out of the picture. Whatever you think of ORU, his condition for support was very wise.

I won't go into great detail about what I've been told because I don't think it's my place to HOWEVER...
I've been reassured that LEO will stay edgy and keep up with the investigative reporting that our readers have been accustomed to. If they are a Christian based organization it hasn't come up in any conversations.

Ron you share my concern as well. Judging from our conversations at work and checking out previous issues of The Nashville Scene (where Chris Ferrell was a publisher) it appears that LEO will remain LEOesque. There's no denying that we will greatly miss Cary at the helm. I ponder how to praise Cary and I think the best thing is to say that he is a fine individual and a good man. His great skill as a publisher has been obvious. Our loss of him is unfortunate. At this point my focus will be on the health of the paper because IMHO Louisville needs LEO or some paper willing to do the job of LEO. For myself, personally, I'm hoping the paper continues on as a servant of the community and not a lapdog for big business, a mouthpiece for special interests or a fluffy, mindless narcotic rag. God knows there are plenty of those around for folks that are uncomfortable with "edgy". I only ask that the public waits to see what happens before passing judgement.

That's great news Carla. I've lived in several cities, and the LEO is the best alternative weekly I've found. The news about Cary is upsetting though . . .

LEO is the best alternative weekly you've seen? Having lived in a few cities myself, and having read LEO for just over a year now, I'd view it as the weakest. Besides Stephen George's writing, there was/is something lacking. I'm not expecting the Chicago Reader, mind you, but I think it could be of better caliber. Can't put my finger on why, but it actually seemed to be improving over the past few months.

Worst column I've ever seen anywhere is the Velocity's (forget the name) in which various people write about a product they're into. "I used to really like the lemony fresh Palmolive dish soap but now my new favorite kind is extra-lemon scent Palmolive because the smell brightens up the whole house..." Makes me picture Britney Spears writing for Consumer Reports.

By the way, my gut reaction when a business advertises as "Christian-based" is 1) Less-than-honest folks are the ones that resort to such tactics. 2) Does it really work? Do some people actually prefer to buy groceries from a Christian grocer, buy a hammer from the Christian owned hardware store, etc.

Let's not turn this into a discussion of "My God is better than your God, Your God is Whack"...

We already have enough of this going on in the Middle East!....
