The Village Bakery, status, etc.

by C. Devlin » Tue May 20, 2008 5:58 am

I've been deferring making any announcements til I had a clearer picture about what was happening, but yesterday gave me some answers. I've also been deferring working wholeheartedly on getting my oven either rebuilt or repaired immediately, and for the same reasons. I'd hoped I'd be able to get my act together before now and start setting up shop at one of the Louisville farmers markets, but as it stands for now, it won't happen til next year.

Anyway, the bad news, heart tumor (yeah, I didn't know there was such a thing either because they are actually just that rare), which on the one hand is nearly 99% of the time not cancerous. The other bad news (I'm getting to the good news of that equation), it can kill you anyway. I THOUGHT that was a heart attack. A host of killer effects come along with the damned things, and I've been plagued with illness for the past several years that's left doctors scratching their heads and telling me to go home and stop thinking so much. Fortunately, Indianapolis has one of the best cardiac centers in the country (and the world), and they developed the diagnostics for discovering this thing while folks are still amongst the living. Used to be they were found only if somebody happened to do an autopsy. So yay for our team.

The good news, it's pretty much 100% curable. Now I just have to get through the open heart surgery.

And then I'll for sure be getting back to business and y'all'll be the first to know.

Colleen, I'm so sorry to hear about the seriousness of your condition, but grateful that medical science has progressed to the point they can detect, diagnose and correct the condition. Good luck with your procedure and your speedy recovery!

Coleen, joining in what the others have said, Mary and I wish you the best. I know it's just as scary as can be, but isn't it a blessing that we live in a time when high-tech surgery is available and makes operations like this possible and very safe. Please keep the forum posted!
