Might get woke up tonight

by robert szappanos » Sat May 10, 2008 8:35 pm

Looks as if we have a good chance of some STRONG Thunderstorms overnight....The real severe stuff should stay south of Kentucky....but the storms overnight may produce some small hail and wind gusts to 45 MPH along with some heavy rain. It looks as if the window for us will be between 3 AM through 7 AM. So if you hear a rumble it is not your stomach....Might be a good idea to set your weather radio to alarm...just to play it safe..... :D .

I appreciate the heads up too, Robert. I have a dog who tries to crawl under our bed anytime a storm occurs during the overnight hours. Since she is a decent size dog (50 lbs) she is too big to fit under the bed. She then goes into pacing mode until we confine her to a small space. Now when I know there is a chance of storms, I get proactive and check her into her tiny digs just before I go to bed. It makes for a more peaceful night, even if the weather interrupts our slumber.

Thanks, Robert. I knew we had storms coming in, but not what you're describing here with hail and all!

Sherrie, one of my Greyhounds (the 2-year-old) just falls apart when there are thunderstorms. I used to give her Acepromazine ("Ace") for thunderphobia, but we now pass out Valium to her and the 13-year-old who picks up on the pacing, panting and heart pounding as if it were contagious. The Ace tranquilizes them, but they are still completely aware of what it is around them that scares them so much. They are still terrified, but can't do anything about it. The Valium works much better for our dogs because they are awake and alert, but not panicking. For milder situations (not full blown thunder/lightning storms), I give them Melatonin, just to take the edge off anxiety.

Thanks, Robert. I still have a hatch or two that need battening down. Appreciate the heads up. Feels kinda funky outside tonight!

Looks like you nailed that Robert! Just got a porch full of pea sized hail out here in Crestwood.
