Shake rattle roll

by Will Crawford » Fri Apr 18, 2008 9:06 am

Felt like someone was trying to shake me out of bed this morning. good thing I was tasting bourbons last night or they might have succeeded. The quake was Really strong out here in Westport.

Oh my!!! I won't be able to think of anything all day other than that creepy feeling that came over me as the tremors rolled underneath my bed. As I just stated to my momma, I definately have a renewed sense of things greater than we and beyond our control.

I slept right through it ... Mary was up and said she could just barely feel the floor rattling and thought it was a truck going by.

More Like a fleet of trucks or a heard of mammoths out here.

That's weird how it can change depending on the area. I live over by Bowman Field, and my wife and I were shaken awake. We are not exactly light sleepers either. It shook the dressers and the paintings on the walls. Our first thought was an earthquake, but it seemed almost too strange a thought. I also thought it might have been something weather related, but I opened up the curtain and nothing was going on outside, not even the slightest hint of wind. Pretty crazy. I have a number of accounts in Evansville, which was very close to the epicenter. It will be interesting to see the impact there.

We're trained hereabouts to think "tornado" when the house starts shaking ... I woke up and noticed no wind coming through the window. Only then did I think earthquake. Surreal.

The hubby and I live in Hikes Point, by Bowman Field, and we didn't feel a thing! The dogs didn't even bark.

It was pretty funny when the cat freaked. Flying teeth and claws. What was funnier was the preempting of "The Today Show" to field endless calls from residents describing their account of this morning. True Jeff Foxworthy moments.

Thought so. It's funny, you get used to them in California (kinda like plane noise etc.), and the only quake that really made me soil myself was 89' (I lived in Berkeley at the time and almost got squashed under the Nimitz Freeway as I was coming home from work in Oakland). I wonder if it was on the "New Madrid" fault?? They have been talking about that fault line for some time, and how we are due for a good size quake out here in tornado land.

It's related to the New Madrid Fault but is actually the Wabash Valley Fault. And man, those aftershocks are freaking me out.

The complete irony of the fact that we are in San Francisco and just woke up to a bombardment of emails about an earthquake in the 'ville is HILARIOUS. We thought our friends were joking around until we read the news online. :o

Glad it was a small one with no damage.
