more about web host sites

by C. Devlin » Fri Mar 28, 2008 6:21 pm

I've been using Go Daddy, and although I like their page layout options, the functions were interminably slow to work with and it's a pain in the neck to update. To make things worse, the CEO of the place is wedded to the notion that the "go daddy girl" marketing schtick is the best thing since, uh, sliced bread and continues to use it every chance he gets. When I signed up there, I thought maybe it was just a sometime thing, but it came apparent pretty fast that it was the theme for the place: "Check out the new babe's Playboy shoot!!!" Or, "Danica's new photos! Too hot to handle????!!!!" Gah.... Now I'm just as liberated as the next person, but the wholly male-centric thing, the "we hope the sex will get you" approach to marketing their host site reached a new low for me today when they suggested maybe Eliot Spitzer's hooker should be the new go daddy girl.... Um, ugh? The CEO invited responses, a host of women clients responded with, "What are you thinking?... That would be a big no," and when I added my own reservations and asked whether it might be a nice idea to offer some features that would draw actual women business owners, well his response was unfortunately knee-jerk and frankly rude. So, anyway, I'm looking for a new place. Some place that might actually belong in this century.

Any recommendations?

Sticking with my Buy Local philosophy, I strongly recommend the good folks at Louisville's own http://www.Iglou.com for very high quality Internet services, both for dialup/ADSL users and for small-business users.

If anyone is seriously interested in having a small-business Website hosted by Iglou, you can certainly go straight to http://www.iglou.com - but if you prefer to contact me privately, I'll be happy to arrange a personal introduction to the appropriate people over there.

I'm a huge fan of web.com for DIY websites and hosting. Easy to use and reasonably priced, with excellent tech support. Much, much better than GoDaddy.
