Garden Wedding in Sept.

by Michelle R. » Wed Feb 27, 2008 3:10 pm

A couple of friends of mine are getting married in Sept of 09, and the bride would like to hold the wedding in a garden. I've checked into Farmington and Whitehall for them, but are there any other places that I can give them? I'm not sure what the budget is (my guess is that they are going to need a reasonably priced place) and they need someplace that will be still be beautiful into late September. Reasonably priced florists, cake decorators, caterers, etc, would be appreciated, as well. The groom is a dear, dear friend of mine, and is barely computer literate, and would like to impress his love with the appearance of being very involved with the planning.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The first places that popped into my head were Bernheim Forest http://www.bernheim.org/weddings.htm and Jefferson County Memorial Forest http://www.memorialforest.com/facilities/default.html. Either Baptist or Presbyterian seminaries came to mind. I have not dealt with any of these locations, but I hope the suggestions will help!

It's ironic, because the last time i was walking around Bernheim, i was thinking that it would be a terrific location for an outdoor wedding.

Particularly the Sunset Amphitheatre... which i guess shows in their pricing.

it was a cold, day and the lake was iced over... and it was beautiful enough then...
i could only imagine during spring or summer months for someone's special occasion.

I think that Yew Dell Gardens is crestwood is one of the most lovely spots around. They also seem pretty liberal w/ different caterers. Hope that your friends find the "perfect" spot for their wedding.

Michelle,

Brian and I were married at Pinecrest which is on Newburg Road, and I highly , highly recommend it for what you are looking for. It is a private home with gorgeous gardens and operates a B&B in a separate cottage on the grounds. We had our ceremony next to their reflecting pool and rented a tent for our reception (luckily as it poured 15 minutes into the reception). Not only is the site perfect but the owner Nancy is incredibly warm and helpful: really made us feel very special. Pinecrest has become one of our very special places. :D

You arrange catering separately, and money can be saved over some places which require you to use certain caterers on their premise. I will mention, however, that Nancy's daughter is Emilie, co-owner of the restaurant formerly known as Cafe Emilie.

Their website is at: http://www.pinecrestcottageandgardens.com/(Let me know if you'd like some more pics - the few pictures don't do it justice).

Here's a big second to the Yew Dell Gardens suggestion. They have a restored "barn" that would hold - I'm guessing here - maybe 100-150 people. You MUST see it to appreciate it.

I'm not affiliated with Yew Dell Gardens or the architectural firm that did the restoration but I do appreciate wood and this restoration was one of the most exciting that I've seen in years. It would make a lovely setting for a wedding.

Let me also point you to the Louisville Wedding Network. If you contract with at least two vendors in the Network, you'll get a 5% discount from every vendor you use. It can mount up!

And in the spirit of full disclosure, I'm a member vendor.

It looks like a really adorable site, but you need to be a having a smaller-size party.

Also, the Conrad-Caldwell House in St. James Court will allow you to use their garden for the ceremony as well. http://www.conradcaldwell.org/

We visited Otter Creek Park, which was very beautiful, but a little far away for us.

Nunnlea House also seems to be nice, from the website: http://www.nunnlea.com

We ended up choosing Glassworks for our ceremony (rooftop!). If you're interested in rooftops downtown, the Frazier museum has one, and the Science Center, Muhammad Ali Center, and the Henry Clay have sort-of rooftops (either fully or partially enclosed).

Holly - the roof of Glassworks is great. A lot of the glass infused tiles up there were made by teenagers at "glass camp", my son was one. Having seen it before the work was done up there, they did a wonderful job on it.

Can't believe I didn't mention this earlier but my brother in law got married at Doe Run Inn http://www.doeruninn.com several years ago. Seems like it was economical (for a wedding)...
