Looking for a house inspector

by MichelleJ » Sun Jan 13, 2008 11:29 am

I'm looking for a good, thorough house inspector, preferably one is knowledgeable about the quirks/problems of typical Highlands houses. I'd love to get some names and recommendations instead of just randomly calling up people in the phone book.

Thanks very much in advance for any help you can provide in this area.

I'd highly recommend Mary Anne Tonini of Home Inspection of Kentuckiana.

I met Mary Anne via historic preservation events in New Albany. She's very thorough and knowledgeable, especially when it comes to older homes. Preservationist-type folks soon learn that a lot of inspectors and appraisers lack experience with older homes, making it more difficult to deal with banks, mortgage brokers, etc. Mary Anne is becoming the "go to" inspector in New Albany because of her firsthand, old house experience.

Check out this roofer's blog for recent before and after photos of her own home. To my knowledge, it's the second she's personally restored.

I would highly recommend Mark Oerther. He has done numerous houses for my clients, and really knows the reality of older houses. He is licensed, and is a good guy that shows up on time.

his number is 459 1446

good luck
