Car Batteries Cheap?

by RonnieD » Tue Nov 05, 2013 1:11 pm

Ok, so I've got a 2000 Hyundai Elantra that is worth about 35 cents (as long as the coins aren't terribly shiny), but it's my primary to and fro work vehicle and the battery has gone kaput. Sadly a replacement battery is in the $100 ballpark. I just can't justify spending that much unless there is no other option.

I've tried Pull-A-Part, but their selection varies wildly and honestly, I don't know enough about car batteries to identify the one I need on sight on a shelf with batteries from all makes and models of cars.

Is there another resource I am missing for cheap replacement car batteries? Or do I have to bite the bullet on this one?

I've had to buy two batteries lately. Just just don't make them like they used to. If you buy a 36 month battery, they last about 38 months. I had to shuck out $230 for one for my 2008 Equinox and the one for Colleen''s 2005 Altima was $120. Even after searching the internet, there wasn't much difference in prices between parts places. If you want to take a chance on one from a junk yard , you're probably still going to have to shell out at least $50-60 and you really don't know what your going to get.
