New Furnace Recommendations?

by Erin Riedel » Sat Oct 27, 2007 10:23 am

It is time, unfortunately, for us to replace our furnace. We have someone from Rouck Plumbing coming on Monday to give us an estimate, and we feel pretty good about them because we have a friend who works there, but I just wanted to check here and see if anyone has really outstanding HVAC people they'd recommend.

Erin,

Try doing a search on the site: I swear there was someone asking about air conditioner replacement on the site and those tend to be the same HVAC people.

HVAC replacement

by JW Purple » Sat Oct 27, 2007 4:10 pm

A couple of years ago we went with Project Heating & Cooling based on a recommendation of a friend who used to work for them before he started his own commercial HVAC business. He said they're good about being customer-satisfaction oriented.

The sales people were low-pressure and informative. We went with a 90%+ high-efficiency Trane model and upgraded filter based on their information.

We've been very pleased so far - but we haven't had a reason to call them (a very good thing)!

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for in this department. After doing a lot of research I went for a Trane 93% efficient model when we bought our new home last June. (I knew the furnace was shot when we bought the place and wanted to replace it before it got cold)

I HIGHLY recommend that you call and get several estimates(if you have the time).

Sometimes you can get a better deal on a better unit if the contractor doesn't have anything lined up for the next couple of weeks.
I got a great deal on a top of the line unit, soley based on a estimate I got from another contractor that was about $1200 cheaper.

It's like buying a car. I mean really, How many furnaces are you going to buy in your lifetime?

Do your homework and don't rush into the first thing you see that you can afford.

Amen. I bought a house and during the inspection found out the furnace was cracked and leaking nasty gases. When we put in the contract that they replace the furnace, we failed to use the word "new," so they put in a used one without telling me. Lasted less than one year, and I ended up with a Trane. Good selection!
