Music for Runners/Walkers?

by Jay M. » Wed Oct 03, 2007 10:34 pm

I am on a volunteer committee planning the Highlands Cup 5K Run/Walk, which is coming up this weekend (Saturday 8:00 am, starts/ends corner of Douglass and Bardstown). We will have a PA system with music playing before the event.

What are some upbeat tunes you runners and walkers particularly like - things that get your feet and heart moving early on a Saturday morning?? I'd appreciate having the song name and artist.

Boogie Shoes

"Boogie Shoes" by KC and The Sunshine Band

The lyrics are sublime, like a sonnet.

"I wanna put on, mah mah mah mah mah boogie shooz."

Trust me, it'll get you going.

Here are two tunes by a couple of Louisville artists that should help put the runners in a festive mood...

Code Red - Summer Jam

Nappy Roots - Awnaw

It may be goofy, but the Rocky ( first movie) soundtrack is great. I don't know the name of the song, but after he runs up the steps, that song is the best for the last hard hill of any race in my book.

Thanks for helping the runners!

The Rippingtons Rule!...I got to see Russ Freeman and "The Boys" play quite a bit when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area...I remember my first Rippingtons experience...I went to see Bobby Caldwell at a Jazz festival on the campus of Stanford University...and The Rippingtons were on the same bill...Bobby Caldwell's performance was smooth as silk...Later on at the festival, The Rippingtons took the stage...At that particular time I was not aware of who these guys were...Then they started playing and I was just BLOWN AWAY by their music...I became a huge Rippingtons fan that day...

Believe it or not, I saw them at Porter's here in town about ten years ago in the smallish back room. They just peeled the paint off the walls (or, what was left of it ... after all, it is Porters!). They haven't been in Louisville for years, but I'd sure love to catch them sometime, although my interest in them peaked with "Weekend in Monaco."
