Me, too, Robin. Carmichael's does come close (and then there is the parking problem). When I need a people centered bookstore these days, I go to Joseph Beth in Lexington.

Derby City Chop Shop for haircuts. Every guy in there is a competent barber.

Keith's Hardware is invaluable to us.

Old Town has been mentioned, but The Wine Market has not. Love it, and the selection, location and the people.

Elizabeth's Timeless Attire. The place is a little bit of vintage heaven. The dress that served as the base for my wedding dress came from there, along with an additional chunk of my wardrobe. Elizabeth herself is awesome.

Ummm... Ear X-Tacy? Yeah. Nothing else like it.

The Sound Factory. Home, Car, Commercial, Marine equipment like audio, alarms, projection systems, etc. John has been there on Broadway for years. One of the good guys.

Burger's Market. Can't imagine life without it. I think I actually reached adulthood when I graduated from my family's house account and got an account in my name.

Murphy's Camera. The only place we will go for camera purchase or repair. They are incredibly customer-centered, and have multiple convenient locations, although we favor the Highlands one.

DiGiovanni Brothers Tailors. We actually venture all the way out beyond the Watterson for them! They're on Lyndon Lane, and they do superior work.

Edenside Gallery. Superb collection of estate jewelry (among other things.) My husband found my engagement ring there after looking many other places.

Doo Wop Shop. Too easy.

Crazy Daisy Antique Mall.

I've got to stop.

Just returned from Old Town Liquors a few minutes ago. I walked.
Keith's Hardware
Burger's Market
Carmichael's
Feeder's Supply
Lotsa Pasta
Heine Bros.
Highlands Animal Clinic
.....basically, anything on Bardstown Road (but I do drive over to Lotsa Pasta).

Used them today thanks to this post and they were great. Called at 7:30 this morning and they were at the house at 12:00; both issues were fixed by 2:00.

Quality Heating & Air on Bardstown Rd. (Ask for John - Leann sent you)

Speier Hardware next to Lynn's (If they aren't busy, they can cut glass or plexiglass while you wait. Takes about 15 minutes)

Jack Senn Plumbing (I have them on speed-dial. Brenda will answer. Tell them Leann sent you as well)

Dirty Tease next to Cafe Mimosa - They will make a t-shirt while you wait for about $25. Takes about 15 minutes if they aren't busy. I've literally walked in with a doodle on a cocktail napkin and waltzed out with a cool t-shirt for a friend's birthday in just a few minutes.

Marcone Supply for all types of appliance/electrical parts if you're in the mood to fix your own stuff.

Feeder's Supply, I like the fact that the KHS supplies the animals for adoption rather than some puppy mill.

J-town & Dieruf's Hardware Stores, If neither of these places have what in need to to fix whatever is broke in my 60 year old house, it doesn't exist. :D

A Place to Go, I've been getting my haircut there since I was in high school

Edenside Gallery, My go to place for Colleen's birthday and Christmas presents! Something for every budget made by local artists!

Just a follow up. I got the bill today and thought it was a bit high. It was $240 for labor only. The services performed were a drain snaking and replacing a 5' section of pvc vent pipe.

Once again, great work and service, but I'm not sure about value.
