Favorite local, not restaurants/food you frequent regularly?

by Brian Taylor Clark » Sat Jul 30, 2011 7:56 pm

Let see where this goes.

Off the top of my head,

Gate's Chevron next to Seviche (Now just Gate's Automotive)- awesome, competent owners and techs, easy in, easy out, great service!
Scissorhands Salon, been getting my hair did by Mona, the owner, for years
Old Town Liquor, enough said
Cunningham door-they do all my reno's that need doors, and send a lot of clients there
Tailor/Alterations- Corner of Preston and Hess, great lady, cheap and quick

I'll add more when I have time....

Great thread!!

Lyndon Animal Clinic. Dr. Oliver is wonderful, we love Becky, and his family is there often and they are awesome as well. (they have another new doctor, and she's seen one of our pets, and she's just as caring and competent as Dr. Oliver) We just prefer Dr. Oliver because we've been seeing him longer, but she's great as well!

The Pet Station in Norton Commons for grooming.

Lush in the Oxmoor Mall because I need my special pampering bath fix.

Lotsa Pasta, 'cause John's Italian, and they have all kinds of neat stuff!

We have a great a electrician, painters, home improvement people dry cleaners and others, but I'm going to have to wait and get that info from John. : )

I LOVE Lotsa Pasta! For purposes of this topic, though, I think it's "food related." 8)

Speaking of vets, we've recently switched over to Fenwick, in St. Matthews near Rainbow Blossom, and we like them VERY much.

Speaking of dogs, we now use Connie's Groom room on a recommendation from here, also cuz Oliver's picky on where he get's his hair did...

Doerr Animal Clinic has provided wonderful service to us, even coming out to the house to put our last dog down, instead of having to do it in that cold, sterile office. He made it 15 years with us, and we wanted to do it where he was comfortable and at peace with his surroundings.

We lived within walking distance of Dr. Doerr before we moved to NYC, and thought very highly of him. It's a little too far out of the way for us to want to subject our furballs to the trip now, but we like Fenwick for a lot of the same reasons that we liked Doerr in the '80s.

Wild and Woolly.

A number of the local bike shops but my go-to shop is Clarksville Schwinn. Always been happy with their selection, customer service, and bike repair service, so I keep going back. Have taken two people to buy bikes there, so they know me. That helps.

True! Even the name "Mike Hammer's" works with it so well.

Another tip of the hat for Oscar's Hardware on Frankfort Avenue ...

Charles Guelda & Sons Plumbing, 7504 Fegenbush Ln, 40228 239-3469

I plugged up my heavy duty garbage disposal today. (Haven't done so for over six years, which is a record for me!) So I called Guelda & Sons at 10:30. They said they'd be here within half an hour. I said that I had a physial therapy appointment at 11:00 but should be home by 12:30. They said they be here waiting when I returned. Nuf said. Problem taken care of! I don't believe service gets much better than this. And Brad the plumber who came was so clean! I know service doesn't get better than this. :D :D
