Need Dentist Recommendation - Preferably East Side

by Steve P » Mon May 30, 2011 6:08 pm

OK...So I broke a tooth this afternoon, no pain but it needs to be looked at ASAP. I need a recommendation (preferably east side) for a full service dentist...the good old fashioned kind that can do anything from filling a cavity to a crown to a root canal. The lovely bride and I aren't real impressed with the dentist we have now...Every time there is anything above a routine procedure it seems like he wants to send us to a "specialist" (usually one that doesn't except our GEHA dental insurance)....So I'm thinking we're done with this guy.

Did you break it gnawing meat from your ribs? Sometimes falling off the bone can be a good thing, maybe ;-). Kidding... no really, how'd ya break it? Is there a story here?

Also, I go to the school of dentistry downtown and they definitely have all resources on site at discount prices. Hehe - I'm sure you'll be calling them asap. They do schedule emergency visits, but you have to call at 8:30am and hope to get through. Kind of like calling in with the trivia answer for a radio contest - *busy signal, hang up, call again, busy signal, hang up, call again, etc...* And if you don't get through before they fill all appointments try again the following day. Yet they've been my heroes on multiple occasions.

We go to Michelle Breslin at family dentistry on shelbyville road in the same center with My Favorite Muffin (on the side that faces Impellizaris). I've gone to her for about 5 years for regular cleanings, but shes also done a filling and crown for me and I've been satisfied! Good luck!

I go to Dr. James Elias. He is part of Mortenson Family Dental. His office is on Forest Green Blvd., in the same strip as Limestone and McAlisters. He is very good in my opinion.

I got to Scott Boatwright, with Mortenson family Dental, 339-7707. That's the Springhurst office right by Tinseltown movie theater.

I like him and they are efficient.

I hope you feel better soon!

Dr Dick Schmitt , 205 Moser (right next to/across from the Fresh Market on Shelbyville Rd. ) 245-5418
He's the best and I will never go to any other dentist ever. Period. The best. Very sharp guy, darn near brilliant work and a great staff to boot.

DH teaches at the school of dentistry. (has been for years) (His name is Dr. Firriolo)
He highly recommends David Jones.
He does general dentistry plus more specialized dentistry as well. Here is his website: http://smilelouisville.com/
For a root canel you could see Jolanta Sauer. Here is her website:
http://www.springhurstendo.com/endodont ... e/meet.asp
He also recommends Karen Nation and Mark Nation. She does general and he does prostedontics (sorry if I spelled it wrong) I couldn't find a website but a quick google search turns up phone numbers for both.

These are just some ideas off the top of his head. I have heard him speak VERY highly of all of them. He has worked with David, and Jolanta used to be one of his students and residents. Karen and Mark are former students.

Thanks to all who replied...I ended up going to my "regular" dentist and was pleasantly surprised that he was able to reconstruct a tooth that was half gone. Perhaps my initial dissatisfaction was a bit hasty.

On a related note...None of the dentists recommended were listed on my dental insurers (GEHA - Government Employees Health Assoc.) provider list. This somewhat surprised me since I've been told this is some of the best dental coverage available AND one of the most efficient when it comes to providing timely reimbursement to the provider :? <shrugs>.

Gee I don't understand, since American health care coverage is so amazingly fantastic.

I hear ya Carla.

In this instance though, it's not like my insurer sets some kind of ridiculous "schedule" of what they will and will not pay. As a matter of fact from what I can see comparing schedules, they're pretty liberal in their reimbursements...and as I said above, the two dentists I've visited who accept my insurances have told me that they are one of the best to work with when it comes to doctor/insurer relationships... So I can't figure it out. Case in point, if I need to visit an in network endodontist, I've got to drive all the way to New Albany.

In the future Steve, check out Forest Spring Family Dental.

Located in the shopping center with Kroger near I-265 right over the Jefferson/Oldham County line.

Dr. Misty Griffin is great!

I've been going to the same dental office since the mid-70's. I started out with Dr. Boyce Nunnally when I was about 7 or 8(I'm 43 now), and have always been pretty religious in my twice a year cleanings. His son, Greg, runs things now. The staff consists of a lot of long time employees, too.

They're in Dupont Circle.
