Looking for a good HVAC contractor

We're shopping for a new furnace, does anyone have a company they have had really good experiences with? HELP. Anyone we should stay away from? Thanks in advance.

I would give birkhead, allied, middletown air calls for quotes. If you are shoppping for a new system all of these are reliable companies that sell good equipment. Also, make sure that your quotes are for the same seer ratings, and tonage.

good luck.

We got a new furnace and central air installed a few years ago and went with Hettinger & Shuck mainly because it was an old, established Louisville firm, and we were satisfied but not really blown away. The price of the system and its overall quality were fine and we didn't have any problem with installation, but once it was in, we got the feeling that they weren't really very interested in maintaining it. They really had to be nudged to come out for spring and fall inspections and cleaning, and if we didn't think to call them, they'd never call us. This did not leave a good taste in my mouth, and after checking around, we ditched them and switched our annual maintenance contract to A. N. Roth, who don't sell or install systems but do maintain them, and they are absolutely great people who do business the old-fashioned way. It might be interesting to call Roth and just ask if they particularly recommend any local contractors.

Since they haven't been mentioned yet, I'll plug DFH, and old family firm. I've left them by themselves in my home many times without any concerns, and they do very good work.

We use Robbins (for service) and have always been very pleased. Can't help (thank goodness!) on replacing the unit, ours is only 13 years old. But we just had to (emergency) replace our hot water heater is anyone need to know about that...

Alvey's is who we use for our offices, and home, and we will now use them for Meridian, seeing as we were "taken" by the present company.

It depends on what your looking for.
When we moved into our new home, I knew we needed a new furnace when we bought the place. We purchased a much bigger house and were looking to have a more energy efficient system.
I called around and got several quotes, but the good people from Crain
(Yep, the same guys who do the HOME DEPOT installs) won out on top. The install was very well done and they seemed to have a genuine concern about my home and the work they performed in it. I can give them two thumbs up and an A+ all the way.
