East coast transplants - where to find Drake's Cakes??

by Michele Janosek » Sat Aug 11, 2007 12:16 am

I've come to realize there are many east coasters here - so I'm wondering...short of my poor parents smuggling Devil Dogs and Funny Bones across state borders, are there any outlets where I may purchase these dessert masterpieces? World Market carries international delecacies, but I have yet to find a place that carries Devil Dogs!!!!

Here you go Michele,

I miss funny bones, they were really good during the summer after just taking one out of the cooler!

I used that site last Christmas- filled a huge box with Drake's Cakes, wrapped it up, and gave them to my Brooklyn-born father for Christmas. He was in HEAVEN!

yum.

I'm guessing it's sacrilegious of me to ask, but for those of us not raised on the East coast, are these different than Hostess Ho-Ho's and Ding Dongs? Surely, Drakes stole from Hostess or vice-versa.

Ho-ho's

by Heather Y » Tue Aug 14, 2007 8:33 pm

Okay, when I realized that I no longer had access to Drakes cakes... I tried the hostess brand. The chocolate coating on the ho ho, tasted like wax. And Hostess does not make a sub for funny bones. Milk chocolate cake with a peanut butter filling covered in milk chocolate. You have not lived until you try a Funny bone, and there is no equivalent to a devil dog! Order some, see for yourself!

This past weekend went to College orientation with my son.
We had our meals in the dining hall, and the dessert they served was "ho-ho" cake.(that was my lunch) . I have to say it was really good, and it reminded me of a Yodel
But, there was no chocolate coating... that is what saved it.

Now, Little Debbie is a completely different story.... yuck! I do not like that at all... I guess you get what you pay for!

I seem to recall that Drake made crumb cakes too! But, I especially loved the Devil Dogs. ( I am from CT and could buy them in school.)
I also seem to remember an awesome Boston Cream pie offered in the cafeteria but I have no idea who provided them.

Wow! Blast from the past! I need to order some.

Tasty Cakes

Spinellis Pizza at 615 Baxter Ave carries Tasty Cakes, they are a Philly thing I think. Maybe one in the same as Drakes

It's wonderful seeing the website for Drakes Cakes. I'll be ordering a ton of Funny Bones.

Now, the only thing I have a need for are Chocodiles and Sabrett hot dogs.

There's a Sabrett cart outside the Lowe's building supply store across from Costco. :)

Tasty Kakes

by MarieP » Mon Sep 03, 2007 9:15 pm

In related news, I saw samples of Tasty Kake Butterscotch Krimpets at the Walmart grocery in St. Matthew's. I was on a mission for several particular items, so I didn't investigate further than taking a piece, but I hope they will be selling them! I have memories of trips up to South Jersey to visit my dad's parents, and we'd always bring home a box.
