Is this offensive?

by Matt Davis » Fri Dec 03, 2010 4:42 am

My wife wants this to be our uniform shirt in the truck. I think its funny but I'm worried it might be offensive to some. Thoughts?

I'm not personally offended, but if you have to ask then I'm sure you already now some people such as Muslims, Orthodox Jews just might be put out.
If you decide to go with this shirt you could also consider another version to wear on alternate days:

Matt, I don't want to sound preachy, but to me it's not a matter of being offensive, exactly. Look at it this way: As a general principle, getting laughs from some people by hurting other people is not the way I would want to promote my business.

I'd think long & hard about the t-shirt. Why offend even a small percentage of your audience when you just don't have to? There's plenty of edgy, funny stuff out there.

When you think about it...who does this offend? Terrorists and busybodies! 8)

Who cares? Go for it.

I wanted to use this one but my wife was afraid we would offend vegetarians.

I agree with Robin on this on. I wouldn't do it. As a marketing professional, I wouldn't recommend it.

One of my favorites is,

Really?

I don't mean to be a stalker Robin. But seriously, you take gratuitous swipes at Conservatives pretty regularly.

On topic...
I wouldn't use this shirt either.

Maybe something like this:
"I love pigs! They're delicious."
"Bacon. Is there anything it doesn't make better?"

No, I do not. I do speak my mind about extreme right-wingers - the haters and the bigots, the people who are fully capable of getting so fired up by Fox News that they would sneak out by night and burn down a man's small business because of his ethnic or religious heritage - but I don't think anyone here is a member of that crazy group. End of story.

Yeah, you do. You just recently attributed an apparent racist arsonist incident to the Tea Party. There's no proof of that. And even if a Tea Partier turned out to be the culprit, you smear the whole group with that crime. That is a gratuitous swipe. Unless, you really think all Tea Partiers are bigoted arsonists, which might make it a philosophically consistent swipe.

You insist the rules here are that you shouldn't say anything that you wouldn't say to someone down at the friendly neighborhood pub. Would you really walk up to someone you knew to be a Tea Partier and make that teabagger arsonist crack in this pub? I don't know.

This seems exactly like the issue with this Pork Shirt. You are a business man. Are Tea Partiers and Republicans welcome on this forum or not? Are they only allowed to the extent that they quietly put up with being vilified?

I say no to the shirt, not because I find it offensive, but I just don't find it terribly aesthetically pleasing.

Now the vegetarian one, I find funny.

How about: "If God didn't want us to eat meat, why did he make us omnivores with teeth designed to tear and rend fibrous tissue like meat?" :D
