Veterans Day

by Bill P » Wed Nov 10, 2010 6:55 pm

Tomorrow, November 11, is Veterans Day here in the U.S.. A day set aside to honor those who have served in times of peace and those who have served in times of war. Each of us follow our instincts on how to best observe this day. However, I was a bit curious how many posters are vets?

Thanks for your service to our country. My uncle was with the 227th Aviation Battalion. He flew Cobras. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for providing cover for a medi-vac mission sometime in 1968. You guys deserve more!!

I picked up my Chicken Soup for the Soul for a little daily dose......

I came upon a story about a Veteran Nurse. It was very touching. I had been thinking about all of the veterans today and what they have given of themselves, but i had never thought about the nurses that took care of them. They took care of the sick, wounded, and unfortunately the dying. So, i want to thank them as well. To all the veterans who gave of themselves for others, and to the nurses that cared for them.

Not a vet, but both parents were (WW2)...my father served in the Navy, and Mom was in the Army Signal Corps; they met (and eventually married) in NYC in late '45, but that's another story ....

Dad served aboard an LST (Landing Ship Tank) and was involved in numerous amphib operations throughout the SW Pacific...in August 1943, he and his crew transported JFK and the survivors from PT-109 to a naval medical facility, following their rescue.

When Dad passed in 2007, we arranged a brief Naval service at graveside to remember his contribution in defending our freedom.

USAF public-information boy, overseeing the base newspaper and giving talks to the Rotary Club in Mountain Home, Idaho during the Vietnam Era, 1966-1970. Please don't thank me ...
