All this rain is reminding me that baseball season isn't too far away.

I'm actually listening to the Chicago Cubs first pre-season game on line right now! I'm so psyched! Baseball is here...

We're season ticket holders, and I can't wait either!

Quite a few of the forumites are Bats fans, as a matter of fact. The food service at Slugger Field sure bites, though ...

What about beer?

by Doug W » Tue Mar 06, 2007 10:58 am

Does anybody know if they will be doing anything about the beer? It's a shame that they haven't worked out anything with Brownings. Having to go out to Left-Center for something with at least a little taste gets old after a few games.

Regards,

It doesn't seem likely, Doug. As great a ballpark as Slugger Field is, management hasn't shown itself to have any particular commitment to food or drink quality as long as the money rolls in. The giant "Budweiser" sign over the right field scoreboard pretty much says it all.

Beer at Slugger Field ---Part Deux

by Dan Thomas » Wed Mar 07, 2007 11:32 am

Well, I have joined the ranks of the non-smokers  (Its been three months now). All of the extra money I have left over from not buying smokes I have been wisely spending on better beer. As a true swill.. I mean Bud fan (Heck, I even did an episode of Secrets of Louisville Chefs with A-B brewmaster George Riech)I am now seeing the "light" on this subject. I have been rediscovering the pleasures of fine crafted beers and even though I still quaff the occasional Bud, I have a different outlook on things now. The iron fisted grip the corporate monster that is Anheiser-Busch has over the concession at the park is indeed, a shame. Even the offerings behind home plate at the bar are mostly part of the A-B line through its recent aquiring of several smaller brewhouses. I don't quite see eye to eye with the esteemed Mr. Baylor yet, but I do understand his point. Anyway PLAY BALL!!!!

Favorite new baseball team

by Sonja W » Fri Mar 09, 2007 12:17 am

Today my five-year-old nephew asked me who is my favorite baseball team. (Background: he is learning Spanish in school, as well as trying on new conversational topics. All of this new information can get confusing.)

Sonja: I would have to say the Chicago Cubs.

Nephew: Oh. Well, my favorite team is the San Diego Madres.

Slugger field needs to fall in line with most of the major league parks and start serving veggie dogs.

Congrats Dan. I've been down that road myself. Not easy. Have you noticed an improvement in your senses of smell and taste? That may explain your new found appreciation for quality brews. Keep up the good work on not smoking.

Still not smoking...

by Dan Thomas » Wed Mar 28, 2007 10:38 pm

Thanx for the support Ron. Quitting has been one of the hardest things I've ever accomplished. And yes, I guess food does taste better because I've gained about 20 pounds a result. The only thing that bums me out is I know I have to walk by all the smokers in left field to fetch a pork chop sandwich. I never realized how much smoking stinks until after I quit. Anyway, It looks like another promising season is almost here. I hope to see every one at the yard :D
