Hang up a baggie full of water high up on a wall! This is a traditional Mexican trick, I used to see it all the time in taquerias around Roosevelt Avenue in Queens. The people swore it works, and I rarely saw flies, but it's puzzling, because the bag is sealed shut.

What if you sprayed it with something like hairspray? I would think that would have to do something!

Assuming you are right handed:

Newspaper or flyswatter in right hand.
Wait for fly to land nearby
Extend left arm fully and not too close to the fly. Wiggle fingers on left hand which will catch the fly's attention.
SWAT .
