It just occurred to me that this section has evolved into a great place to compare consumer notes on issues like this.
I'm not entirely happy with the options I've been using for haircuts. My job as writer/editor/Web editor puts me in the funny position where most of the time I'm working solitary or venturing out to casual spots like Heine's or Caffe Classico or Lotsa Pasta, and it doesn't matter if I'm wearing a raggedy shirt and comb my hair with my fingers, but when I need to dress up, it's generally for classy dining or fairly important sessions like business meetings, television or public appearances, and I need to look sharp.
Bottom line, with no real emotional ties to the places I've been getting haircuts/styling, I'm just wondering if any of you guys - particularly folks whose professions, like mine, call for Power Dressing at least on occasion - have recommendations for barbers/stylists who are very good at going beyond the buzz, white sidewalls or the bowl cut.
Extra credit for handy location (Crescent Hill, Highlands or downtown) and an attitude that doesn't operate from the assumption that anyone over 40 is a style-unconscious geezer who can be scalped and sent on his way with no complaints. Value would also be nice, although I'm certainly willing to pay for quality.
Long question ... any short answers or good advice?
