A long shot, I know...

by Michelle R. » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:45 pm

I'm enquiring on behalf of my very distraught friend, Jessica. Last night, her dog got a hold of, and killed her pet grey squirrel. I'm posting here in the off-chance that someone may know of someone who breeds squirrels as pets. She's devastated, and I just want to do everything I can to help. Strange question, I know.

She's looking for a plain old, regular grey squirrel. Yes, I know some people eat them, yes I know it's an odd request, but she's been crying for days, and I'd really like to give her some good news, if possible.

This is so sad. I really wish there was a way to help. Would she be willing to rent a Have-A-Hart trap (which captures animals alive) and bait it with peanuts in a squirrel-rich environment? She'd have to go through the process of taming and socializing the squirrel, though, and if it's not a baby, I'm not sure how practical that is, though, or even if issues like rabies could be a problem. :(

Michelle, there is a lady who tends bar at Patrick's on Frankfort Ave. on Thursday's whom is also a squirrel lover, I am pretty sure she breeds them or is into a rehab program with them some how.
I cannot think of her name but she has been there for quite a long time and will guide you in the right direction.

I don't know about any gray squirrels but the short- tailed ground squirrels can be bought at some pet stores.

Please tell me you've never carried your pet squirrel in your bra to a Drs. appointment. Because if so, I've run into you before

Steve..I nearly fainted. I had a woman with a baby squirrel in her bra in our office several years ago. I did not want to know how she was feeding it.
