Movies?

by Gayle DeM » Mon Jun 28, 2010 8:48 pm

I am packing a care package to send to my son, a navy pilot, aboard the carrier USS Washington. He has requested movies to share with the Ready Room and Troops. The problem is that I am not a fan of movies. I don't think I've been to one in two years. So I'd like some suggestions of movies that would be appreciated by the troops. Thank you.

Wish I could help - I'm not a movie-goer, either. I am, however, a one-time pilot and have enormous respect for your son's apparent capabilities.

The age group I'm guessing is late 20's to early 30's? I asked my nephews that are in that age group. They suggested The Hangover, Death Race, From Paris with Love (John Travolta) and The Messenger. These are new releases. Hope this helpes.

She's Out of My League
Green Zone
The Book of Eli
Youth in Revolt
Invictus
Edge of Darkness
Pirate Radio
Men Who Stare at Goats
Up in the Air
The Informant!
Law Abiding Citizen
Couples Retreat
Zombieland

All these are pretty good; I really enjoyed the ones in red.

I'll second Zombieland. It's one of the best movies I've seen in a while (for pure escapism) and has a high repeat watch factor.

Hot Tub Time Machine was a hoot (not sure when it's released on DVD, though.) I'll second Youth in Revolt and Zombieland.

You MUST include The Hangover. That is currently my husband favorite. We both also really liked Sherlock Holmes. They also might like Inglorious Basterds.

All right, I have picked up four to send off this week. (Along with three magazines and packs of microwave popcorn.) Since I send packages every three to four weeks, I'll keep working on the list. Thank you all who contributed ideas. -gayle

If you need "guy" magazines let me know. I have piles of Golf Digest, Maxim and Rolling Stone lying around.
