hauling away wood

by Ellen White » Thu Jun 24, 2010 9:09 pm

LG&E is coming on Friday to cut down 4 trees in my backyard because they are impeding on electrical lines. I am glad, because I hate these trees. They will cut them down and clear the brush, but they will not haul away the wood. They say they cut it into firewood lengths.
I need to have the wood hauled away, but I am CHEAP! These are big trees, so there will be a lot to get rid of. Any suggestions?

We have a friend that has a lawn business. I just sent him a message asking if he would want to haul away your wood and how much he would charge. I'll let you know as soon as I find out!

What Annemarie said. Firewood isn't cheap, and you would be surprised how quickly people will jump on free firewood. You might actually be able to get THEM to pay you to haul it away.

One is a walnut tree. I don't know what the other ones are.

Please be careful if these are ash trees. The Emerald Ash Borer, which devastates ash trees, has been found in many Kentucky and Southern Indiana Counties. This includes Jefferson and Oldham in KY as well as Harrison and Floyd in IN. Transportation of infected firewood is the primary cause of the spread of this pest.

Stack it next to the street with a free sign and it will be gone in no time.

Did the contractor who is doing the work tell you they won't haul away the wood or was it an LG&E rep? They cut some trees in my back yard once and left the wood (without advance notice) and when I called LG&E and complained, the lady I spoke with had the contractors come back out and take the wood away. If they are making you cut the trees, I don't believe that you are responsible for disposal of any type. This was several years ago so their policy may have changed, but I would try to talk to some type of manager rather than their regular customer service.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I did ask the tree guys themselves, but they said they wouldn't take the wood.
