Kentucky gasoline prices and taxes?

by Bill P » Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:38 pm

As I drive from Indiana to Kentucky, I don't see any real differences in gas price/gallon. I find that a bit odd since the state tax is ~$0.12/gal higher in Indiana. Unless there is another layer of taxes in KY, it just doesn't make any sense? What am I missing? Maybe the Commonwealth should raise the gas tax to help reduce the deficit since it doesn't appear taxes have a material impact on price at the pump.

Interesting theory. Strangely when I was in TN last week, gas prices were $0.30-$0.35/gal cheaper than here even though TN has a slightly higher tax ($0.03/gal).
