We live closer to "Dirty" Kroger than any other, but it's been showing some signs of redlining lately. More limited selection than the East End Kroger's, and so we'll generally hit Woodlawn Park. You might also consider Wrocklage Kroger on Bardstown just out from Douglass, which isn't a long way out from downtown.
That said, I find that the more we get into locavore/organic/natural food buying, the less we go to Kroger. We can cover 95 percent of our grocery food needs at Doll's, Rainbow Blossom, Lotsa Pasta, Burger's, the farmers' markets and ethnic food stores. It takes a little more running around, but it's also more fun.
For what it's worth, when I lived in Old Louisville for a couple of years in the '80s, I hated the the-Kroger at Third and Breck, and routinely drove out to the Highlands or St. Matthews to shop. Which is one reason I didn't stay in Old Louisville long-term.
