Funny thing about the weather...

by Steve P » Thu Apr 29, 2010 3:13 pm

A funny thing about the weather forecast supplied by the local media...Until about 12 hours ago (when our media finally had to own up to reality) every other locally supplied forecast in the region (Indy, Nashville, Cincy, etc) as well as the National Weather Service has been showing at least a 20-30% better chance of rain this weekend (as well as cooler temps) than our local media...Funny how that happens. I've observed the same "phenomenon" with many other major sporting events throughout the country. The sky could be falling and hell could be freezing over and local media will be predicting great weather until the bitter end.

No denying it now, it's gonna be gross and rainy tomorrow. Glad I won't be there, especially in the muddy infield. Yuck.

For my weather forecasting needs, I go no further than http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 2=-85.7412

Fast, convenient, reliable, bookmarked.

For Saturday: Image Saturday: Periods of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 74. South southwest wind between 8 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

(My comment: one to two inches forecast is pretty rare. So expect some heavy rain.)

Actually, surprisingly (because I agree with the concept behind this thread in general), it's starting to look as if we may luck out. Here's the latest update of the NOAA point forecast:

Today: Occasional showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 73. South southeast wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
