Tree service near St. Matthews?

by Steve A » Mon Apr 26, 2010 4:33 pm

Our trees need some serious pruning.

We're looking for somebody to come out, do some trimming, chip and haul away the branches.

Any recommendations?

Also, we've noticed some bamboo sprouting in the backyard. Assuming it's not native to our neighborhood, any ideas about how to get rid of it before it takes over?

It is not native. Also very invasive. Let it grow just a little, but not get established. Use Roundup. It will take two or three applications at about a week intervals. It will need a few leaves for the Roundup to be effective.

Weird - I just came over here to post the same inquiry, though I'm in the Highlands.

So, I'll second Steve's inquiry - any recommended tree servicers in the area?

I think they are two separate companies, but both have been around that area a long time. They both do landscape and tree work

We've had an excellent experience with Dave's Tree Service. Ours was stump/ tree removal but the should do the other. I found their prices to be very reasonable.

Steve,
We have used Greenhaven ( http://www.greenhaventreecare.com) forever. Our daughter is using them now, just moving back to Lou. They are very good, reasonable and knowledgeable. Great guys-- the owner's name is Robert Rawlins, who is an arborist, and he will come out and talk to you, personally .

We use Kentucky Tree out of Prospect. 228-8223
This is one of those things that will save you a lot of money if you get several estimates. The Ray's tend to be rather expensive. We got 4 estimates when we had ours done and they varied by several hundred dollars.

Testify! We've had them in pretty much annually, and they're responsible, do excellent work, and are very fair about pricing. They were remarkable after the ice storm, when we didn't lose any trees but had some major limb damage. (Of course, I was smart enough to think about calling them and getting high up on their list on the day of the storm. 8) )

Just writing to report back. We got three estimates before deciding on a tree trimmer. Dan was absolutely right when he said that prices can vary widely.

We ended up going with Greenhaven, as we were the most impressed both with the price and the rep that gave us the quote. As a bonus, we called them to give the go-ahead this morning and they were scheduled to come out next week. We got a call back a few hours later saying their guys had time to do the job today.

They've been and left and we're very happy with their service.
